Getting in the mindset…positive thinking for the new year

With the new year just around the corner, we’re all probably taking a quick look at the past 12 months…and maybe thinking about what we want to do differently in the coming year. How can we make 2017 the best year yet? With new resolutions, gym memberships, and career goals aside, there are some ways we can start thinking positively to make the new year the best it can possibly be.

Put things into perspective

Let’s face it, you may not have actually signed up for that half marathon you’ve been trying to bring yourself to, but look at all that you have accomplished! Making a list of the things you are glad you were able to do or accomplish this past year will help put some of these bigger goals into perspective. Progress is very important to recognize and appreciate. Give yourself a pat on the back.

Get rid of that baggage

A new year is a great opportunity to let go and move on from things that weigh us down. Do your best to resolve any outstanding issues or concerns that are important to you. Start with a clean slate, and look toward a positive future.   

Plan time for fun

Anything from finally planning that romantic getaway to movie nights with friends or cooking classes — whatever will get you excited! Just go for it, put “fun” on the calendar, get e-mails going, get organized, and make these activities something to look forward to.

The ‘Vision Board’

It may sound silly or like a homework project from junior high, but vision boards are actually super helpful in keeping us motivated and positive about the future. Whether it be an actual board or something digital, a vision board is simply a way to highlight the ideas or plans that you have for your future. It is as simple as the law of attraction: believe it, think it, look at it every day, and good things tend to happen (check out these awesome vision board ideas here).
